- Photos and videos you upload
- Messages you send to your matches, including any photos or videos shared in them
- Location data (to display location on your profile and find nearby users)

Automatically Collected Information
- Device information and identifiers, including your device's advertising identifier
- Usage statistics
- Push notification tokens
- App interactions and preferences
- Technical server logs, including your IP address and the time of each request
- Your subscription status, if you buy a premium subscription
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Display your profile to other users
- Enable posting, event creation, and matching features
- Send you notifications about matches, messages, and app updates
- Improve app functionality and user experience
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Legal Bases for Processing
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR:
- Performance of a contract: creating and running your account, and providing matching, messaging, posts and events.
- Consent: personalised advertising, and access to your device's location, camera and photo library. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting the service's core features.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the service safe — content moderation, abuse prevention, security, and diagnosing technical problems.
- Legal obligation: responding to lawful requests and meeting accounting and tax requirements.
4. Permissions We Request
Photo Library Access (Android: READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO)
- We request access to your photo library to allow you to select photos and videos for your profile, posts, and messages.
- We request permission to save photos and videos you download from the app to your device.
Camera Access
- We request access to your camera to allow you to take photos and videos directly within the app if you choose to do so. This is optional, and you can still upload media from your library without granting camera access.
Location Access
We request your location to:
- Convert map coordinates to place names
- Help you set your location on your profile more conveniently
Notifications
We send push notifications for:
- New matches, messages, and post interactions
- Event updates
- Important app announcements
5. Advertising and Your Choices
Double Couple is free to use and is funded by advertising, served by Google AdMob. Users with a premium subscription see no ads at all, and the advertising SDK is never started for them.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent through Google's certified consent management platform before any ad is requested. Your choice decides whether the ads you see are personalised. You can change it at any time in the app under Settings → Ad privacy settings.
On iOS, Apple separately asks whether the app may use your device's advertising identifier. If you decline, you will see the same number of ads, but they will not be personalised. You can change this later under iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only:
- With Google AdMob: your device's advertising identifier and related advertising data, to display ads. Where consent is required, this happens only after you have given it.
- With service providers: the companies listed below, which process data on our behalf and on our instructions only, and may not use it for their own purposes.
- With legal authorities: when required by law.
7. Third-Party Services
Our app relies on the following third-party services:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, databases and media storage, in the EU (Frankfurt) region (Privacy Notice)
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob): displays advertisements (Privacy Policy)
- Google Maps: map display and converting coordinates to place names (Privacy Policy)
- OpenAI: automated moderation of profile text, profile and display images, posts, events and comments, to detect content that breaks our rules. Your private messages are never sent for moderation. (Privacy Policy)
- RevenueCat: manages premium subscriptions, and receives your purchase history and account identifier (Privacy Policy)
- Ably: real-time messaging and notification infrastructure (Privacy Policy)
- Expo Notifications: push notification delivery, via Apple's and Google's push services
- Klipy: GIF and sticker search. Your search term is sent to Klipy so it can return results; we do not store it.
8. International Data Transfers
Your account data and uploaded media are stored in the European Union (Amazon Web Services, Frankfurt). Some of the service providers listed above are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved safeguard. You can ask us for details using the contact address below.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account Information → Delete Account in the app, or by emailing us if you have already uninstalled it. Full instructions, and a complete list of what is removed, are on our Account Deletion page.
Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, posts, events, comments, messages and every photo and video you uploaded — including the files themselves from our media storage. A small amount of data outlives the account: encrypted database backups and technical server logs are kept for up to 30 days, after which they are automatically overwritten or deleted. Deleting your account does not cancel a paid subscription; cancel that through Google Play or the App Store.
10. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data — see the Account Deletion page
- Opt out of personalised advertising — in the app under Settings → Ad privacy settings
- Withdraw consent for data processing
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Finland this is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (Tietosuojavaltuutetun toimisto).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address in the Contact section below. We will respond within one month.
11. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
12. Children's Privacy
Our app is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email.
